It was named after the roman emperor who made an order for its construction.

The wall covers 70 miles from beyond Carlisle which is in the west and Wallsend, on the east. The main aim of its construction was to keep the savage Scots at bay, prove the strength of the Romans and act as a political statement. It was abandoned in 383AD when the Roman Empire was crumbling down and by then, the wall had lasted for more than 250 years.

You can be able to see the most preserved part of this wall by moving to the Northumberland. In this part, you will find a ten mile stretch in the northern part of the Lake District at a place known as Hexham. Note that this part of the wall is the United Kingdom’s largest classical ruin. By visiting the northern part of England, you will not only enjoy seeing Hadrian’s Wall but also a number of ancient Roman forts.

You can choose to have a guided walk, which starts at the small Northumberland village that has an uninterrupted section of wall and marks. The walk will then end at the west coast of England at a pretty village known as Bowness-on-Solway, which is located on the solway firth.

During your guided walk along this wall, you can see the UNESCO world heritage protected site. You can also watch the graceful surrounding landscape, which has fortresses and outposts along the way. You will also find that the middle part of Hadrian’s Wall does not have many alterations since Roman time. For sure, this wall acts as a famous tourist attraction site because it is a combination of historical significance and wonderful scenery.
