Working of a Wireless Mouse

A cordless mouse is a device which frees you from the problem of cord. It normally transmits information through two ways one is via Bluetooth and other is through radio signals. Cordless mouse enables you to work from anywhere where you want; one is not anymore dependent on the length of the chord. In previous generation mouse power was transmitted via chord where as in cordless mouse the source of power is through AAA batteries. Being a radio-based device, it has two main parts which are a transmitter and a receiver.

The transmitter is placed in a mouse so that it could transfer the information regarding the movement of the mouse and the buttons clicked in the form of radio waves. Then the receiver which is connected to computer receives the signals, and then first decodes those signals and those decoded information is provided to the driver of the device and your operating system. Many electronic devices use radio frequencies to communicate, for example cellular phones, wireless networks and remote controllers of Television.

In order to perform jobs efficiently different type of devices are assigned with different frequencies so that there may not arise any conflict. Our cellular phones which we use operate on frequency of 900-1800 MHz where as remote controllers uses 40 MHz and our wireless networks operate on 2.4 GHz speed. Radio technology is used for long distance communication, unlike infrared technology which is most commonly used for short range wireless communication.

There is no requirement for the RF devices to have a clear sight between the transmitter and the receiver. RF signals can transmit through materials like table, monitor or even wall in case of wireless network. Cordless mouse have various benefits as you are not bound with a cord and one can move freely, RF technology supported mouse consume less power and can also run on batteries, they are inexpensive and are light in weight.
