How to Change When Apps Appear in the Notification Center on Your iPhone

Posted by rafael on January 14, 2013 in Mobile

The notification center on your iPhone is designed to make getting the latest news and alerts as easy as possible. If you set yourself a reminder using the built-in “Reminders” application, for example, an indicator of that reminder can appear in the notification center. Additionally, weather and stock information appears in the same area. If you’ve got a lot of applications installed on your iPhone, however, the notification center can quickly get cluttered and can become difficult to use. You can manage which applications appear in the notification center by following just a few basic steps.

Step 1

Exit the current application (if you have one open) and return to your iPhone’s main “Home” screen. Tap once on the “Settings” icon to continue the process of adding or removing applications from the notification center on your device.

Step 2

Tap the option in the menu on screen labeled “Notifications.” The “Notifications” option is located towards the top of the list. The window on screen will display a series of four sections. The first is labeled “Do Not Disturb.” The second is labeled “Sort Apps.” The third and final sections are labeled “In Notification Center” and “Not In Notification Center,” respectively.

Step 3

To remove an application from the notification center on your device, find its name in the section on screen labeled “In Notification Center” and tap on it one time. Locate the “Notification Center” button in the window that appears. Tap the blue “On” button to switch it to read “Off.” The selected application will no longer appear in the notification center on your iPhone. Tap the blue “Notifications” button in the upper left corner to return to the previous window.

Step 4

To add an application to the notification center on your iPhone, find its name in the section on screen labeled “Not In Notification Center” and tap on it one time. Locate the “Notification Center” button in the window that appears. Tap the grey “Off” button to switch it to read “On.” The selected application will now appear in the notification center on your iPhone. Note that if your desired application does not appear in the “Not In Notification Center” portion of the “Settings” window, you cannot add it to the notification center on your iPhone.

Step 5

Repeat these steps to continue adding or removing items from the iPhone notification center as your preferences dictate. Any changes that you make will be immediately reflected in the current settings of your device.
