Cats produce allergens called Fel d 1 and Fel d 4 and these allergens can cause allergies to some people adversely effecting their health. Though they are not completely hypoallergenic, but they produce lower levels of allergens.

Breeds of hypoallergenic cats are Balinese, Devon Rex, Oriental shorthair, Javanese, Siberian, Cornish, Rex and Sphynx. Besides these breeds, cats that have lesser hair are also hypoallergenic. But if not groomed properly and maintained well, even the cats with short hair can develop allergens and cause difficulties for their owners.

Earlier people used to think that existence of hypoallergenic cats is just a myth. But researches and lots of studies have proved that they do exist. They may not be easily available in all the local stores. So if you are looking to possess a hypoallergenic cat, its better to visit a private breeder. By using the services of a private breeder you will have the opportunity of choosing the cat from larger variety and you can even select the color that you want your cat to be in.

The best thing about owning a hypoallergenic cat is you need not worry about allergic reactions caused because of cats. Because these cats are different from the regular cats, you will have a chance to talk about it to guests who visit you house and see your pet. Maintenance becomes easier as cats with less hair means less hair and dirt on carpets, floor and furniture. It would be a good investment option, if you want to own a cat which is less allergic and you will get to spend more time with your cat as maintaining them gets easier.
