Band of Influential
Band The Stooges were formed in Detroit in 1968. A group of misfit kids thrown into the jungle of their industrial hometown captured the attention with their basic rock and roll music. The band is touted as the pioneer of the rock bands. Their music was so eccentric that you could easily wonder if they knew anything about the music. Now if that was really the case or was it intentional is something for everyone to interpret. But their greatness lies to make that kind of music interesting to people. None other than Iggy Pop led the band. Iggy Pop was famous for his on stage actions. Everything about them was unconventional- their simple instruments, raw vocal, guitar even their attitude. Music industry never experienced so much eccentricity before.
The band signed a contract with Elektra Records and made their debut in 1969 with the album, ‘The Stooges’. The contemporary music was dominated by peace and love. The Stooges were exactly opposite to all of that. The album contains many hit songs like who’s my generation, I wanna be your dog, we will fall, no fun and not right. There is nothing spectacular about the debut album. But The Stooges were not known for music or lyrics. They were known for pure rock and roll songs. The debut album offers exactly that.
The band later came up with albums like Funhouse in 1970 and Raw Power in 1973. Funhouse has songs like Down on the Street, Loose, TV Eye, Dirt, 1970, and L.A. Blues. Funhouse is widely described as the album, which keeps on, increasing the intensity, reaches its peak and suddenly collapses with a last song L. A. Blues.
The band broke up. Iggy Pop started his solo career but never achieved height of the success the bad experienced once. The Stooges released only a few albums. But they were influential for the future bands. They played their part in guiding the music industry.
