Baseball Uniform
A Baseball Uniform is a major part of game and worn by the players. The uniform has played a important role in athletic contests throughout history, as it helps to distinguish what players play for which team. Baseball uniform or jerseys are used as representation of a team, league or a club. It contains names and special numbers.
The baseball jersey’s custom begins in 1849 when the first baseball uniform was adopted by Knickerbockers Baseball Club of New York city. It consists of a white flannel shirt, a straw hat and blue pants. With the passage of time further developments in the baseball jersey’s custom have been made. From 1882 most uniform include stockings, which covered the legs from foot to the knee. The material which is widely used for manufacturing jerseys is pure polyester.
In past, it was also made from cotton. But baseball jersey’s custom has changed and modern jerseys are also made by synthetic fabrics. The fashion of wearing two uniforms also begins at the end of 19th century. One of them is used when they played at their home ground and the other, when they played other than theirhome ground. In the modern era, the fashionable jerseys have different colors and logos as well. The first collarless jersey was introduced by Giants in 1906. Cleveland Indians was the first team to entered numbers on their shirts and jerseys on their left sleeve in 1916whereas in 1952, Brooklyn Dodgers became the first team to print numbers on front of their shirts. In the early beginning the numbers were no more than two digits but the Japanese players change this tradition to three digits. In 1930s, the unique logos, letters and different kinds of nicknames on jerseys and t-shirts are used by the different teams as a source of advertisement.
