Much of the myths you hear about sports tend to be just rumors or stereotypes that do not fit in fact the reality of all sports. However, in golf, the myth has some truth and makes sense when analyzed.

The cost of this European sport is high – not just for those who play, but who keeps playing areas, the investment to build a golf course cannot be less than five hundred thousand dollars, and field maintenance is as costly as. Therefore, associations in golf clubs are high, and rates of the members hardly go for less than two hundred dollars per month for each associate member.

The sport equipment is not cheap: golf clubs cost an average of two hundred to five hundred dollars, depending on the material – and the clubs are just the most basic equipment.

For all that, the myth that golf is a “elite” sport is not completely unfounded or false.

They are males, above the age of thirty-eight years with an average annual income of forty-five thousand dollars. These players – professional or amateur – in general have at least higher education, commonly being masters or doctors in their areas.

When traveling, these athletes tend to travel to places where they can play golf, many preferring to travel for that reason alone, require greater attention to services, safety and convenience.

Another major contributing factor, especially, the average age of the golfer is the issue of physical effort: Golf consumes energy and calories expended, but it is not a high impact sport and the execution of each match, although time-consuming – average of four hours to cover all eighteen holes of the course – is also made easy.

Physical activity is made, but without exaggeration, which benefits people with already advanced age, who wish to exercise, but not in the habit of making them in excess.

There are, of course, the attempt to integrate more parts of society in the practice of sport – fields constructed for the free use of people with lower income and donations of materials such as golf clubs and tees – but its diffusion is still very small.

The average profile of the player also reflected in associations around the sport – the Golf Clubs are usually associated with people of higher social class, couples with children, and, more generally, executives.
