Throat Specialist
The LARYNX and the PHARYNX and The Specialist
The throat is the second unit of the digestive system after the orifice. The throat’s technical name is the pharynx. It is the anterior part of the neck. The throat starts from base of the cranium and ends at the beginning of the esophagus at the level of inferior throat muscles. The wall of the throat is made of muscle. The length of the throat is almost 12 cms. It’s consists of the larynx and the pharynx. The tonsils appear at the meeting point of the throat and the vestibule of mouth. At the center point of the throat, the esophagus and trachea (windpipe) meets. To prevent inhalation of food and drink the epiglottis plays an important role here. Also there is a tube connecting the throat and the tympanum. This tube is called as the eustachium. If you close your mouth and nose, and exhale in force, the exhaled air then pass through the eustachium and enforce pressure on the tympanum membranes. The ear drops used might pass through the eustachhium and drop into the throat too. The throat contains various blood vessel too. As you see, throat is a only unit of the digestive system, but it is an important unit and contains several parts performing serious functions. Whenever a disorder happens in the functions the person must visit a throat specialist to be treated properly. You must not forget that throat carries fateful materials like air to the larynx and windpipe, and, food and drink to the esophagus. Everyone young or old meets throat problems during the lifetime. Some of them are ordinary like sore throat which generally happens because of a viral infection.
Most people think that it is a minor problem. However, I highly recommend you to visit a throat specialist instead of the family physician. However, some of the problems are serious like an infection in the tonsils or inflammation of the pharynx, etc. When there is a serious throat disorder the patient MUST visit the throat specialist. A well trained Ear Nose Throat Specialist is a medical doctor who has a deep knowledge of throat diseases and disorders as well as the other organs (ear and nose). He is specially trained in the medical and surgial diagnose and treatment of all throat disorders and diseases.
