Curing Phobias: Hypnotherapy Versus Facing Your Fear

Posted by rafael on February 12, 2013 in Diseases

The common advice given to anyone when they are suffering from a phobia of some sort is to face their fear but is this also the best and most effective option?

Phobias can really affect your life in a negative way and stop you doing some of the things you want to do. For example anyone with the fear of flying will be reluctant to get on a plane and enjoy a nice holiday and anyone with the fear of public speaking could become shy and withdrawn from society. Now this is obviously no way to live your life but there are other options apart from confronting your own personal resident of ‘room 101’.

By definition, a phobia is a fear of something irrational but that doesn’t stop it really hindering someone’s day to day life. Let’s examine the two methods with the hope of establishing hypnotherapy for phobias as an effective cure.

The Root Of The Problem

Most people with a phobia will be very reluctant to face it head on, even if there is the possibility that it will help them to overcome their fear. However, with hypnotherapy there is no need to take action as drastic as this. Instead of dealing with the subject of the fear, hypnosis will look at exploring how the phobia developed and getting to the root of what caused it in the first place.

Scientists know that we are born with only two fears; the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. Therefore any other phobias that we have will have been learned over time and can thus be unlearned. Hypnosis will look at addressing the subconscious to remove the roadblocks that are causing the phobia without ever having to come into contact with whatever it is that scares you the most.

Timescale

Did you know that it can take anything up to sixty six days to form a new habit? Now if that new habit is not being scared of something that has previously caused you fear, can you really afford to wait that long? Even if you do pluck up the courage to face your fear, the chances are that you are not going to be cured immediately and therefore you could have to put yourself through that process any number of times.

In contrast, hypnosis has been known to help someone form the new habit of not experiencing fear when they are faced with the cause of the phobia in just one hour long session. Of course, there is no guarantee that you will start to love the thing that once triggered fear but you will be more comfortable around it. And if that can be done in just one hour, think what could be possible after a few more sessions.

Hypnosis is quickly becoming something that is regarded as an effective and scientific cure for phobias. More and more people are realising, to their benefit, that the process of being entered into a relaxed state in which it is easier to focus and access the subconscious can have lasting results when combatting phobias. Join these people today by looking into to some hypnotherapy and stop your fear from controlling your life.
