Comparison Between Fast Muscle and Slow Muscle Fiber Types
People believe that growing a muscle is hard task and requires more effort in gaining mass. Based on the type of muscle – fast muscle and slow muscle fibers, one can determine the qualities of an athlete. Muscles are made up of fiber structures that contain proteins and vitamins. These muscles are like elastic material, which can be compressed and pulled back to original structure. There are also various studies stating that once the muscle gets shortened it will result in muscle contraction. It is a known fact that muscle fiber is categorized into two types – slow twitch and fast twitch muscle fibers. This differentiation of fibers has a great influence in a person’s activity that is carried out by him. But on an average, both fast and slow twitch fibers are equally distributed in the human body and perform various movements.
Talking about fast muscle type, its fiber carries out a metabolism process without oxygen to create fuel for strength. These types of muscles get weakened quickly and they produce same muscle contraction compared to slow muscle. The fiber of this muscle type bursts out rapidly that helps a sprinter in generating more force for running. These muscle fibers are classified in two sub sections. The first kind generates energy by using both aerobic and anaerobic metabolism. The next type of fast muscle fiber creates energy by anaerobic process that produces high bursts in quick time.
On the other side, slow muscles which are the efficient type in generating more fuel using aerobic process for frequent and continuous contractions. These muscles burst out more slowly that helps people who belong to marathons and bicycle athlete category. The fiber of this type doesn’t get weakened quickly as in the case of fast muscle. There are talks among people about the possibility of conversion for muscles from one type to another type. Based on research, it is possible to change fast switch fiber types to slow one by proper training.
