The cathedral is considered as the realm of the Archbishop of Roman Catholic Archdiocese situated in Mobile. It is famous and named for sacred Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, based on her title, “Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception”. The cathedral is well known for its three daily masses and the six Sunday mass programs. Moreover, it has a capacity to accommodate about 800 persons and the extra services of the church include yearly lunch provision for about 50,000-60,000 poor people. The Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception is the main worship place for about 500,000 Catholics.
