Arsenal Soccer Club: A Rich History

The Arsenal Soccer Club is ranked as one of the club soccer organizations in the world. It acquired its present status through years of contribution by people associated with it. The history of the club makes for a fascinating read. The club has a rich legacy of contributions and initiatves taken by both individuals and groups, and these have taken it to its present stature.

If one begins to trace the history, one would have to go back to the year 1886. Late in that year, one of England’s Premier League clubs came into existence, thanks to a group of football enthusiasts in the Woolwich Arsenal Armament Factory. The club was then known as the Dial Square. It quickly came to public attention after it won its very first match against its rival, Eastern Wanderers. With the spotlight still on its players, the club soon became popular under a new name, Royal Arsenal. Within a few years the club donned a professional mantle and became known as the Woolwich Arsenal. All this while it continued to play at the local level though it was not before 1893 that it became a part of the Football League.

From 1925 onwards the Arsenal Soccer Club tasted a period of glorious victories under the leadership of personalities like Herbert Chapman, George Allison, Tom Whittaker and George Graham. Each of these leaders contributed in his own way to take the club to newer heights. A formidable achievement of the club includes being the first club to achieve both the cups in the domestic arena in a single season, 1992/93. This is one of the many achievements of the club.
