Patricia Amorim – Flamengo’s First Female President
A former national swimmer, Patricia Amorim does hold the national record for the youngest woman to have crossed the Guanabara bay in Brazil. After that nothing could stop this energetic woman. She became the first female president of Flamengo. Flamengo is one of the oldest and one of the most respected clubs in Brazil.
The club has been a home for lots of Brazilian soccer legends. Patricia was able to win the hearts of millions of fans when she brought the soccer player Ronaldinho to play for Flamengo. Patricia Amorim was born in Rio de Janeiro and had been a Flamengo fan since her childhood. But she opposed the system of male dominance in the management of the club. She was successful in opening a rowing club under the umbrella of Flamengo and was further successful in opening other branches of sports that trained athletes for the Olympic levels. This passion for sports, for Brazil and especially for Flamengo earned her the title of Flamengo’s president.
Her extraordinary sports background and along with her interest in politics helped her to gain the praises of the senior officials at Flamengo.During the tenure of Flamengos ill-fated days, she was the only person who stood behind her players and was able to deliver her words of wisdom straight to their heart. Flamengo’s losing streak took a halt and the whole scenario took a bright change when she brought in Ronaldinho and it just worked wonders. The whole team regained shaped and so did the fan following and as a result the first female club President Patricia Amorim gained much respect from the Flamengo fans.
